TAUNTON, Mass. (WJAR) — Taunton police said a worker was able to escape a manhole explosion late Tuesday morning.
Police said they responded to Broadway and Church streets just before 11:30 a.m. after an officer working a road detail reported a manhole explosion.
Investigators said the explosion was due to an electrical line that was hit by a road crew.
"The damaged electrical line resulted in a fire in the nearest Taunton Municipal Light Plant manhole, and the pressure released from the fire blew one manhole cover off," noted police in a release Tuesday.
No injuries were reported.
