Important Changes to the NFPA 79 Standard

On-Demand Webinar

NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery) is the basic standard for industrial machinery in the USA and is published by the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA). NPFA 79 is a standard referenced by NFPA 70, also known as National Electrical Code (NEC) and covers specific requirements for electrical machinery.

It is important that manufacturers who are placing their products into the US market (or other markets where this standard may be applied) and end users of industrial machinery that fall into the scope of this standard understand and follow the requirements of NFPA 79. At the beginning of 2021, there were several changes to the standard which will have heavy influence over the electrical design of machinery.

The new edition of NFPA 79 will also have influence over common machinery related test standards, such as UL 508A, “Safety Standard for Industrial Control Panels” and UL 2011 (OOI) – “Outline of Investigation for Machinery”, UL 1740, “Safety Standard for Robots and Robotic Equipment”, and others.

This webinar will cover the key changes in requirements and help you get familiar with the latest edition of this standard. Additionally, we will be discussing how NFPA 79 is related to Federal Codes and other American standards.
