Cybersecurity Assurance Program

Today, consumer and industrial products need to have strong cyber defenses in place in order to secure and protect the sensitive information they often collect. Through the use of information assessment and cybersecurity services, manufacturers can not only ensure the safety and security of the product, but also demonstrate their commitment to safety to their customers.

For original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), having the ability to identify and fix cyber vulnerabilities before they are found by adversarial or end customers helps add tremendous value to their products. With TUV Rheinland Cybersecurity Assurance, an OEM can assure the end customer, integrators, and its value-added resellers (VAR) that they have taken responsible steps to ensure its consumer or industrial product is cyber secure.

Armed with a statement of Cybersecurity Assurance from TUV Rheinland, you provide transparency to your customers that your products are safe and secure, helping to protect your brand value.

Criminal hackers can exploit vulnerabilities in your network, your IT systems, applications or mobile devices to penetrate your organization and manipulate or steal sensitive business information and customer data. The fact of the matter is, no organization is "too small" or "too insignificant" for an attack, and many organizations are already compromised without even knowing it. Do you know the weak points in your systems and applications that attackers could exploit? Internal and external penetration tests and IT security analysis from TUV Rheinland can provide those answers!

Our Penetration Testing & IT Security Analysis can optimize your company's IT security and protect your business from network attacks in just a few steps. We examine your IT infrastructure from a hacker's perspective, simulating a realistic cyberattack to identify vulnerabilities in your IT before attackers can exploit them. Our experts then recommend suitable countermeasures and assist you in their implementation so you can protect your systems, sensitive business information, and customer data from harmful unauthorized access and industrial espionage.

Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Data Elements™ Certification Testing

In September 2021, we announced that our Product Safety & EMC Excellence Center in Pleasanton, CA is now qualified to perform certification testing under the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Data Elements™ certification program! The Wi-Fi Alliance® introduced the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Data Elements™ program to bring a standardized approach to Wi-Fi network diagnostic data collection, allowing better visibility and maintenance of customer’s Wi-Fi networks.

The latest release of the program incorporates updated features and new requirements. Devices may continue to be tested for certification under the original Wi-Fi Data Elements feature set until October 2, 2021. However, after this date, all devices must meet the new requirements of the updated program in order to obtain certification. Wi-Fi Alliance® Members may now submit their products to TÜV Rheinland for testing and certification under the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Data Elements™ program.

New Testing Capability:

Wi-Fi 6E Certification Testing

In April of 2020, the U.S. FCC adopted a proposal that opened the 6GHz band for unlicensed Wi-Fi use, and in turn, unleashed 1,200 MHz of additional bandwidth for next-gen Wi-Fi 6E devices. With its super-wide 160 MHz channels, uncongested bandwidth, and the ability to deliver multi-gigabit, low-latency Wi-Fi, the 6GHz spectrum has become very attractive to product developers and device manufacturers.

With Wi-Fi operation in the 6GHz band increasing daily, certification for Wi-Fi 6E has been introduced as an extension of the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6™ program to deliver interoperability for devices operating in the 6GHz spectrum. TUV Rheinland of North America is now authorized to provide Wi-Fi 6E certification testing and aims to use the new capability to bring the immense benefits of the 6GHz spectrum to consumers, device manufacturers, and service providers around the world.

Updated Standards for Industrial Robots:

ANSI/RIA R15.08, UL 3100, and ISO 10218
The much awaited standards ANSI/RIA R15.08 and UL 3100 were released earlier this year to address an ongoing compliance gap with the quickly growing mobile robot market. Prior to their release, mobile robot manufacturers were left to using traditional robot and AGV standards to address safety.

In addition, the basic robot safety standards ISO 10218-1 for Industrial Robots and ISO 10218-2 for Robot systems, robot applications and robot cells integration are currently under revision. These updates will change the definitions of robots and address many more safety concerns, staying up to date with current robotics technology.

TÜV Rheinland will be developing educational webinars on these standards in the next few weeks. In the meantime, if you’d like to learn more about the difference between industrial mobile robots and automated guided vehicles (AGVs), download our recent whitepaper!

Textile Testing Update:

AATCC Publishes New Test Method for Textiles
As a first standardization body worldwide, the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) has published a test method addressing the quantification of fiber fragments in an accelerated laundry setting, known as Test Method TM212 - Version 2021 on Fiber Fragment Release During Home Laundering.

This method will enable brands and retailers to make informed decisions based on the amount of fiber shed from different types of fabrics. It will also provide a possibility to create a benchmark for assessing different fabric types. It is expected that a test method proposal will soon be published as an EN standard and most likely also an ISO standard in the near future.

Green Hydrogen Certification
New Technical Competence Center for Functional Safety
The production of hydrogen requires a lot of energy. This means that within the hydrogen supply chain, the CO2 load increases, as does the "product carbon footprint". But since all strategies for the future use of hydrogen in terms of sustainability are aimed at strengthening the expansion of climate-neutral or green hydrogen, it is important to examine the production methods, transport methods and final applications of hydrogen.

TÜV Rheinland supports players in the hydrogen supply chain by providing an independent and internationally recognized basis for certification, verifying the climate neutrality of their hydrogen.
